The trail

About the trail

Ipswich Trail Makers is a walking trail around eight blue plaques in Ipswich. At each site you'll find a sticker with a QR code. Scan it and that person's page opens on your phone — their story, their film, and the words a class of local children wrote in their voice. Scanning also unlocks them in your collection.

The trail is part of Wolsey 550 PlaceChangers, marking 550 years since the birth of Thomas Wolsey by looking at the Ipswich people who changed the place around them. Eight primary schools each adopted one figure, researched their life, and reimagined how they might speak to us today.

Made by children, with AI

Every portrait and film in this trail was created by pupils using AI tools. They are imaginative interpretations — not real photographs, and not real recordings of anybody's voice. Nobody on this trail was photographed or filmed.

The biographies are different: those are factual and drawn from research by the Ipswich Society, who look after the town's blue plaques.
